This jumped out at me looking at the tiny farmhouses giving way to apartment complexes and strip malls all around Charlotte. Guessing older folks now gone with the kids cashing in their memories. Oddly, many of these little bungalows are surrounded by massive trees possibly one to two hundred years old... twisted with time and in need of a good arborist yet destined for firewood and mulch. As lighting sometimes flashes, massive black barked trees brought me back to thinking about Cafe Geiger in Yorkville, NYC, German town on 86th street [alas, gone - as are the Germans: they only return en-masse for the Stueben Day Parade, but unlike the swallows to Capistrano, never to nest but only to return to the burbs by sundown]. Best Schwarzwalder Kirchtorte in the city... a black forest cherry cake.... [took 5 years of German and advance one grade, ugh!]. If there never was a black forest, one lingers in my mind... dark chocolate, cherries and heart clogging good. Perhaps I'll find it one day as life offers a certain sweetness for those who seek and yearn to taste. Anyhow... this began as a doodle on a small lined yellow pad... and contrary to teacher, those that doodle likely have better noodles. Taking form and shape, that led to a sketch on canvass, then some color perhaps a little less black, but then hues take many turns.
