Leeward Winds: My eyes first feasted upon a Divi-Divi tree in Curacao nearly 50 years ago. On landing approach, looking down upon what seemed to be a tropical paradise, it all shattered as we flew over a rusted VW Beetle looming above the scrub shrubbery in what seemed a lunar landscape. The paucity of vegetation compared to Malaysia or the Philippines was striking as I love the topics with all the senses. Worse, it seemed the Divi-Divi was the only growth outside irrigated palms surrounding the hotel grounds. Live, experience & learn. Still a recent trip to Aruba reawakened old memories that blended with long ago travels through the Mediterranean.
